WHAT'S ON

Club Meetings are held on the last Wednesday of each month at the Public Hall in Budleigh Salterton starting at 10.00am. They include the latest Club news, talks and demonstrations by guest speakers, occasionally followed by workshop sessions in the afternoon.
The club is open from 9.45am so that members can chat and socialise before the meetings starts. Coffee and tea is provided at a break halfway through the demonstration. We usually finish at 12pm but may sometimes go over this time depending on the stage of the demonstration.
There are also other workshops, details are below, booking for these sessions will be opened nearer the time of the event.
We shall also be holding art courses throughout the year and other social activities.

LYNDA KETTLE 30th April 2025 10am - 1pm Public Hall
Demonstration: ‘Art and Design in Theatre and Television as a Production Designer’
At our April meeting we will be welcoming Lynda Kettle.
Lynda has always loved the magic of the theatre! Her art school experience led to a degree in theatre design. Her career began as a theatre designer, leading her to the BBC and a profession as an art director and production designer. Over a period of 30 years she was responsible for the set design of many popular television programs such as Angels, Howards’ Way, 2.4 Children, as well as quiz shows, plays, light entertainment and children’s’ programs.
After leaving the BBC she established a studio at the Canalside Craft Centre in Stoke Prior, from where she ran an art gallery, workshops and gave tuition. In Devon she now has an established art studio and gallery called Loft Studio at Libra Court in Sidmouth.
As an artist she works in various media, including pastel, watercolour, acrylic and oil and has exhibited paintings at numerous galleries in London and the Midlands

Lynda will give a presentation of her experiences for which she will bring along photographs, press cuttings, drawings and models of some of the many television programmes that she has designed.
She will also include her experiences in the art world; the difficulties and the highs and lows of being an artist.
There’s more information on her website www.lynda-kettle.com

Carol Cruickshank: Textile Artist
25th of June 10am - 12pm Public Hall
Carol Cruickshank is a textile artist based in Portland in Dorset. She makes hand sewn, colourful textile pictures. Since starting on her local sea and landscapes, she has extended her pictures to anywhere which captures her imagination. With a son in Australia and a daughter in Copenhagen, these places have provided her with new exciting subject matter, as have visits to nearby Devon and Cornwall.
Each picture takes many hours of work, firstly preparing the scene, choosing materials, cutting and piecing and hand sewing the shapes, then adding fine details before presenting the picture in a frame. You have probably seen seen some of her pictures at Otterton Mill. Carol exhibits with Artwey and is a member of the Association of British Naive Artists.
