EVENTS

Club Meetings are held on the last Wednesday of each month at the Public Hall in Budleigh Salterton starting at 10.00am. They include the latest Club news, talks and demonstrations by guest speakers, occasionally followed by workshop sessions in the afternoon. The club is open from 9.45am so that members can chat and socialise before the meetings starts. Coffee and tea is provided at a break halfway through the demonstration.  We usually finish at 12pm  but may sometimes go over this time depending on the stage of the demonstration.

There are also other workshops, details are below, booking for these sessions will be opened nearer the time of the event.

We shall also be holding art courses throughout the year and other social activities.

If you have any queries regarding our events, please get it touch via email at bsac2017@gmail.com

DAVID WILSHer Demo & WORKSHOP 30.10.24 PUBLIC HALL

Our meeting on October 30th will be a demonstration followed by a workshop in the afternoon also at the Public Hall from local Topsham artist David Wilsher. He is renowned for his Marine paintings and also takes groups on painting trips to Venice! Here is a brief description of his life in art, taken from his website, which will give you a glimpse of what we can expect from him! His workshop in the afternoon will be a local scene in acrylics. The accompanying photos of his paintings are scenes of Topsham.

‘I live in the lovely Devon town of Topsham and have had a successful career in a variety of artistic disciplines and work in a variety of media. For several years I was a portrait sketch artist on the Greek island of Corfu before becoming a signwriter and developing a reputation as a pictorial, fairground and mural artist.

In 2000 I moved to Sydney and earned a living as a full-time artist concentrating on my own work. I am a member of the Australian Society of Marine Artists and I was a finalist and highly commended at various art shows and competitions in Australia. I also illustrated books, one of which was shortlisted for an award.

As well as exhibiting, I publish my own art prints and greetings cards and I am regularly asked to do commissions. I also do painting demonstrations and workshops for art groups.

I have been selected for various exhibitions including: South West Academy (SWAC), Royal Institute of Oil Painters (ROI), Royal Society of British Artists (RBA) and the Royal Society of Marine Artists (RSMA)’

To sign up for the workshop, please complete the form below. The workshop will cost £20.

NOVEMBER MEETING

Our November meeting this year will have a Christmas theme to it! Along with mulled wine and mince pies, we will be letting members have some fun creating their own Christmas card/cards!

If you would like to participate there will be tables set up ready with items for you to make use of.

We will provide everyone with blank cards of varying sizes, colours and apertures along with envelopes, Christmas collage bits, embellishments, glue sticks, small pieces of watercolour paper etc.

But please feel free to bring your own ideas and objects to use - especially paints or pencils for illustrating your cards if you want to do it that way!

Lisa Murdoch has also kindly offered to have a table for doing relief printing on cards and will bring some templates she has made already for us to make our own Christmas designs to print with! She will show us what we need to do if we want to make a card in that way. It’s a fairly quick process so there will be a chance for many of us to have a go at some point during the morning.

Please don’t feel obliged to take part in the card making - you are very welcome to just come along to the meeting and have look at everyones ideas whilst sipping your mulled wine or cup of tea!

This is the last meeting of the year as we will not be having one in December, so it will be great to have bit of fun before we meet again in January for Jake Winkles demonstration. Thank you all for your support this year at the demos and the workshops, it is very much appreciated.
