WEDNESDAY 28th January 2026 10am - 12.30pm
NIC GEORGE
Nic George, Exmouth Artist and Art Education Consultant
Professional Art Education Consultant and Artist
Nic will be joining us at our January meeting to give a talk, demonstration and an afternoon workshop.
During his talk and demonstration, Nick will be reflecting on his professional role as both an artist and educational consultant. He will consider how we learn and develop through art, art education today and how it has evolved. He will also mention his influences as an artist while demonstrating the processes of creating his own art.
Nic originally hails from a small village near Neath in South Wales and comes from a family of artists, inventors and stonemasons. He moved to Exmouth in 1987 to study primary art education at Rolle College and quickly fell in love with the sea and surrounding areas.
Nick is inspired by his windsurfing in Exmouth and exploration of the coast with his dog Betty. These experiences influence his dramatic work, which captures the relationship and movement between the land, sea and sky.

Nick‘s work is predominantly in acrylics, and he uses a process of layering to create paintings with atmosphere and emotion. The titles of his paintings are linked to the poems of Dylan Thomas, who is one of his personal heroes.
As well as his own art education consultancy, Nick is the art consultant for the Southwest Academy of fine and applied Arts.

MONOCHROME WORKSHOP
Wednesday 28th January 1.30pm to 4.30pm
with artist Nic George

Monochrome is one of Nic's favourite ways of painting. By just using black and white paints, Nic has developed a range of techniques that explore and capture the sea, examining mood, atmosphere and rhythm. This is a great workshop to explore the potential of using a very limited palette of paint. It builds on a variety of approaches such as black / white photography and drawing with charcoal, pencil and pen.
Nic will not only be explaining and demonstrating but will also be sharing his source material to help inspire you. This is one of Nic's most popular workshops and it fits in well with the time of year when weather systems are rolling in and providing a feast of ideas for capturing moody days.
