BUDLEIGH FROM ABOVE

Come and join this exciting new project.
The “Budleigh from Above” project will be an exhibition at the Fairlynch Museum, running from the 3rd of April 2026 to the 1st of November 2026. It will then open for the Christmas shopping evening on the 27th of November.
The exhibition will consist of artwork inspired by drone footage and photographs which we are in the process of collecting. We have 100 images below. The photographs are for reference, interpretation and, above all, inspiration for your work. Each picture is individually numbered, (e.g., 1BFA, 2BFA etc....) and in addition to the ability to download each picture onto your computer, you are entitled to receive one A3 print of your chosen picture, which is included in the £15 entrance fee. There is a form at the end of the gallery on the website to make the request, or just email BSAC2017@gmail.com with the picture reference number. If you are undecided, additional prints can be made available for £1.20 each. Collection details will be communicated in due course.

Although we are sure that our more iconic views will be used, we are very keen to have diverse and original views and encourage you to be creative in your choices. This will give the viewing public a whole new perspective of Budleigh.

To make this exciting exhibition impressive and impactful, we are standardising the artwork. Every artist will produce a work of the same size to be presented on a wooden canvas/board 30 cm x 40 cm in LANDSCAPE format. The board will be handed out at the club meeting on Wednesday the 26th of November on our Christmas card making day, between 10am and 3pm, where we will also be on hand to answer any questions. Alternatively, the boards can be collected at the Budleigh Information Centre after this date.

A variety of mediums can be accommodated on these panels by preparing the surface with products such as gesso, pastel ground, watercolour ground and cassein binder. The sides are to painted in a solid colour complementary to your chosen palette, except textiles artist who can wrap the fabric and attach underneath.
These boards will be bought in bulk by the club therefore sold to you at cost. We each board will cost approximately £10 and we will be charging an admin fee of £5 in addition to cover the other costs involved.

Sale of Pictures
If you wish to offer your picture for sale, each artwork will be priced at £180. Otherwise marked NFS.
Although no pictures can be removed during the exhibition period, a picture can be reserved at any time with a £50 deposit and collected at the end of the exhibition on the 1st of November. To accommodate transient visitors, the work can be posted anywhere to the UK mainland for £6.50, paid for by the purchaser.
If sold, 20% of the selling price goes to the Fairlynch Museum and a further 10% contributed to the art club.
After this combined 30% reduction of £54, each sale therefore generates £126 for the artist.

The exhibition is restricted to 40 artworks.
Registration opens on Monday the 20th October
The entry fee is £15 (which includes the wooden panel)

Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: Will the works be for sale?
A: It is an exhibition in its purest sense and due to its length, there is not the facility to administrate ad hoc sales. All entrants must therefore be prepared to exhibit their work for the duration of the exhibition.
There may be some provision to reserve a picture until after the exhibition by liaising with the individual artist via the club, or a customer to make a purchase at an end of exhibition sale, but these options are still under discussion.
Q: Am I guaranteed that my picture will be exhibited?
A: No, but it is very likely. Three relevant points:
-
Representatives of the museum will be involved in the choice of suitable works and the curation of the exhibition.
-
If we have too many similar images, we will favour greater diversity, placing a limit the number of the more iconic views of Budleigh exhibited at any one time. This can be addressed by early consultation with the exhibiting committee.
-
If we have too few entries, we may allow members the opportunity to present more than one picture.
This is a new and innovative project for this club, and maybe for you……. please give it a go!!!
