May Bank Holiday Monday brought out the visitors once more to a lively and innovative display of members’ work in a sunny Public Hall.
Organising his first exhibition, our new Exhibition Secretary, Alex, along with a most efficient and enthusiastic team of helpers had everything in place and on time for a 9 o’clock opening to a steady stream of visitors.
The BSAC Exhibition Strong Men Team In Action
A wide range of subjects created in every technique was on view – tapestry and felting, watercolours, acrylics, oils, pen and ink, pencil, wood carving – and for the first time computer generated 3D artwork.
Throughout the day we had demonstrations of watercolour painting, oil painting and woodcarving with an area in the entrance for boys and girls to draw on Jed’s famous Bubbly Salterton drawing and colouring wall.
Encouraging children to try their hand at watercolour painting was as popular as ever and with Dan's guidance, his young students dipped into the medium for the first time - more recruits for the Club in future years!
Sales and footfall kept our volunteer stewards busy throughout the day with visitors of all ages enjoying the exhibits.
Over 150 votes were cast for the most popular artwork in the show which resulted in an almost equal number between Jackie Stokes, Ben Honey and by just one vote, our eventual winner Bob Seabright.
At the following Club Meeting he was presented with the May Cup, a splendid cut glass engraved vase, for his painting
Lisa and her team provided a splendid refreshments corner that was well attended by visitors and members alike, enjoying home made cakes along with much needed teas and coffees.
We had many very favourable comments about the exhibits and the organisation so a big thank you is due to members who submitted their work, those who volunteered their services, all the back room preparation and those who organised such a successful day. And thanks of course to Budleigh Salterton Lions who's invitation to participate in Gala Week provides us with such a wonderful venue to display our members' work.

Next up is our celebratory Summer Exhibition in August, our 40th Ruby Anniversary show so now's the time to get out your brushes, paints, pens, charcoal, chisels, fabrics, needles, computer programmes and all the other materials needed to produce a great show of stunning artwork.
Not forgetting the Ruby-Red theme if you’d like to create something special for the show.
