Rebecca gave a brilliant series of demos using the challenging medium of pastels at our October club meeting. Showing techniques that we can all adopt, she covered a wide range of subject matter starting with a landscape on Dartmoor. Rocks, grass and sky all came together in dramatic form to create a lively and impactful composition. Next up were trees, showing how to use light and shade with foliage, trunks and branches giving a real three dimensional look. Finally - and probably the most difficult for us all, were animals. As an example she demonstrated a lurcher for which she’s been commissioned showing techniques for not only the basic structure of the head but how to create the impression of hair with light and shade. Also cats and horses with the different textures of hair and fur.
A most inspiring talk and demo of so many subjects that will be really helpful when we come to create pastel work of our own.
