Something completely different!
from Ralph and Julie
Having visited Porthleven in Cornwall many times over the years, we thought it would be fun to mount an Art Exhibition in the Old Lifeboat House which has been converted into an art gallery and workshop.
So together with Julie’s brother Kevin and wife Anne, our ex sister-in-law Kate with partner Stephen, who both live in Penzance and a long time ex work colleague of mine, Simon and his wife Julie, we took the plunge and booked the venue over Easter.
Little did we expect the weather to be so bad, but never mind, hopes were high of a good week ahead. Although the footfall was relatively low, we had a lot of positive compliments and all of us had decent sales by the end of the week. I have to say that regular visits to the pub, several good local eating establishments, consumption of good pasties and great company all made the week a real success.
As well as a range of different paintings in Acrylic, Oil and Watercolour mediums, we also had some beautiful, uniquely turned wooden bowls which Simon Farrimond has just started to produce. Simon spent a lot of time in Japan and that style has certainly influenced his designs. Commissions taken!!
For those of you who know Porthleven, or have seen it featured on “Spotlight” whenever there is a storm, suffice it to say we weren’t disappointed! Interesting! - especially as the Lifeboat House is as close to the sea as possible and waves actually smash into it’s foundations and have been known to destroy the roof! But great fun for all of us and we are seriously thinking about repeating it next year - maybe later when it’s a bit warmer.
Kevin’s popular range of printed mugs, slates chopping boards, tiles, tea towels all
printed from Anne’s original artwork. If anyone is interested in having their artwork printed on to a range of items then Kevin is your man! Just let me know and I’ll pass on his contact details.
The seal photos (in the middle) were part of a portfolio of photographs exhibited by Stephen Westcott. Stephen spent a lot of time in the Southern Oceans studying marine life and enthralled us all with his life in those hostile waters.
All in all a fun time was had by all - we are looking for a venue to set up a similar exhibition in East Devon, so if you know of anywhere suitable we would appreciate your ideas. Hope you enjoyed my short recap on a very happy week!
