NEWS - May 2020
For portrait painting enthusiasts here's an easy-to-access, live, self-portrait painting session with Andy James.
If you’re lucky enough to have three hours worth of spare time, you can watch it from the beginning at:
If you want to simply dip in and see bits of it you can do that too. It's direct from his studio and is really helpful - lots of tips, sound advice, a great portrait - and very watchable.
The groundbreaking Life Drawing Live! returns to BBC Four, drawing the UK’s four nations together in the biggest-ever live, life drawing class.
There has never been a better time to collectively
get those creative juices flowing, as presenter and artist
Josie d’Arby is joined by experts Lachlan Goudie, Diana Ali and Nicky Philipps to share their passion and knowledge
in this inspiring event.
Viewers will be able to watch live and draw along,
as amateur artists at home and in our socially distanced studio, capture a series of life model poses, based on classical works of art. Tuesday 12th May, class starts at 8.00pm and is open to everyone with artistic skills, and those who think they have none, to pick up a pencil and draw!

Because of the Coronavirus lockdown, there's no BP Portrait Award exhibition to visit this year at the National Portrait Gallery. But there is good news.
The winner of the competition has just been announced and you can see this and all the selected exhibits in the virtual gallery by visiting the following link:
The winner, Night Talk, painted by self taught artist Jiab Prachakul is (in my view) a welcome and refreshing change from the tortuously hyper-real paintings of previous years and it's a joy to see a work with some emotion, acute observation and painterly quality for a change.
To my eye it reminds me of some of the work by Egon Schiele and also some of the French impressionists but of course to understand and get the full benefit, it needs to be seen in the flesh. Maybe sometime later in the year.
Anyway, do have a look at the online gallery - as close as we'll be able to get for a while yet - and maybe it will inspire us to create our own portraits during this period of confinement to our homes.
One of the strengths and attractions of Budleigh Salterton is its High Street and local businesses. In this time of crisis, many of the businesses have diversified and changed arrangements to ensure the people of Budleigh and the surrounding area can still get provisions and access to services.
These businesses need the support of the town to survive.
Budleigh Salterton Town Council, in partnership with the Chamber of Commerce, has compiled a list of businesses that are continuing to trade and offer services.
This crisis will see many people in Budleigh and the villages struggle financially.
Budleigh Community Support Fund and Exmouth Food Larder are there to help. Both organisations would also appreciate donations:
Budleigh Community Support Fund donation page https://www.gofundme.com/f/budleigh-support
Exmouth Food Larder food donation points at the Co-op, Spar and Pynes Farm.
Due to lockdown, this list will be largely circulated electronically through the various networks in the town. Please feel free to pass the information on to others, or to contact the Council offices if you know of someone who would benefit from a printed copy.
If you are aware of any omissions/changes/errors to the information below, do please contact the Town Council Offices:
