The weather decided to misbehave so we held our latest pop-up and drop-in session inside the Temple Methodist Hall rather than roaming the streets and shoreline of the town looking for likely subjects in the rain.
We set up a series of table-top arrangements for those who fancied a go at some still life drawing and for others who brought along their reference photos, landscapes, townscapes and flowers were the order of the day. A lively session resulted in a wide range of work, accompanied by much discussion, many ideas and not a little levity
David Riches started work on the first of several drawings around the town of buildings and other features from which he intends to create a large composite illustration - can't wait to see the finished article
Wendy Markham of course produced two superb acrylic landscapes in no time at all - how does she do that?!!!
And Ray Jones, one of our new members, got stuck into some still life sketches that he intends to incorporate into a fantasy painting in the near future. Watch this space for something really different.
Others in the group produced a variety of work – some lovely pen and ink drawings by Jennie Delahaye, landscapes by Sue Noblett, and yellow tulips and vases by Joy Launor Hayes.
Plus Joy's amazing colour palette shown above, worthy of an abstract in its own right. Offers anyone?
Towards the end of the session we talked through loads of ideas for future Pop-Up Workshops - abstract art, music and dance interpretation, fast sketching and other specific subjects like the buildings, doors and shop fronts around the town. And many more.
Do check out the website for upcoming dates and themes and if you’d like to join us for a fun, sociable and instructive few hours, simply drop in with your art kit on the day. You’ll be most welcome.
